Our New Store on the Historic Skipton High Street

As well as being much-loved by its residents, Skipton is also a favourite spot for visitors who come to enjoy its beautiful scenery and the wealth of outdoor-activity opportunities available. Whichever you are, tourist or local, make sure you are always fully prepared for whatever adventures await you in this gorgeous historic town with a visit to Ken Varey's Town and Country Clothing Store, which has now relocated from New Market Street to bigger and better premises on the famous High Street.

Skipton, derived from the Old English word for 'sheep town' (Sceaptun), was recorded in 1086 in the Domesday Book and became distinguished by its wooden castle, erected in 1090. The castle was fortified with stone in the 12th century and, successfully repelling invaders from Scotland, helped the town to become thriving and prosperous, with an economy based mainly around sheep (meat and wool). In modern times, Skipton's proximity to the stunning Yorkshire Dales has seen it become an important hub for visitors, continuing the bustling nature of the town.

High Street in Skipton is famous for its exciting and diverse blend of shops, bars and restaurants and has received the coveted 'Best Shopping Spot in Britain' from the Academy of Urbanism. The street effortlessly blends the modern with the antique; the vibrant modern market is located on the original spot of the old sheep-market and Chocolatier Whittakers, a world-renowned luxury chocolate-maker, has been established here since 1889.

Our new store on Skipton High Street is spread across two levels in order to offer customers the widest possible product choice along with the most relaxed and comfortable shopping experience. The downstairs area is where you will find all of our outdoor clothing and accessories from quality brands such as Barbour and Jack Murphy Clothing while upstairs is purely devoted to displaying our massive range of footwear from Aigle Parcours to Le Chameau wellies and everything in between. Any assistance you require will be quickly and professionally provided to you by our hand-picked team of skilled and knowledgeable staff.

On your visit to our new and improved store, check out our latest tablet technology that, along with a host of interactive fun, offers the chance for you to easily enter one of our fantastic competitions. Finding us is simple: we are located right opposite the Town Hall and storefront parking is available on non-market days, otherwise a cheap and convenient pay-and-display car park is located just nearby.
