Ian Joule established Joule & Sons back in 1977 and remained at the helm for 12 years before handing the business onto his son Tom, who renamed the brand simply as 'Joules'. The company originally sold a range of country clothing and accessories at equestrian shows: Joules's first offering was 100 pairs of wellington boots in a bright pink colour!
By 1999, Joules had created its own brand of clothing and opened its first store a year later. A mail-order service began in 2002, quickly followed by a website in 2003. Joules has continued to grow in popularity ever since, continually extending its unique country clothing collection.
