The Glorious Twelfth is finally here! August 12th 2021 marks the beginning of the shooting season for red grouse and ptarmigan and as such is one of the most important dates on the hunting calendar.

The date of the 12th of August as the start of the shooting season for grouse and ptarmigan is traditional, dating back almost 200 years. The current legislation that enshrines the date is set out in the Game Act of 1831 in England and Wales. For Northern Ireland, the corresponding law is the Wildlife Order of 1985.
